Every year in the fall, the Guercif region experiences great economic activity in olive transactions running into billions of cents, attracting traders from various parts of the Kingdom.
Olive production this year in Guercif province is characterized by its abundance and high quality, with production tripling compared to other regions known for its quality.
Guersif became the leading olive producer nationally due to the decline of production in other regions also known for their abundant olive production.
The price of olives has increased considerably compared to previous years, depending on the type and quality of the olives, since their prices vary between 12 dirhams per kilogram and 13 dirhams, while olives intended for presses vary between 10 dirhams and 10 .5 dirhams per kilogram. kilogram.
A number of olive traders have complained to Heba Press about restrictions hampering their trade in Guersif. The first of these is the marketing problem, because a well-known party monopolizes olive production in the east, except for a few years, due to competition with parties in the west.
One of the traders confirmed that the problem of the absence of a model market to regulate the purchase and sale of this vital material in Guersif is considered unacceptable, especially since transactions in the olive sector are estimated at billions.
The same source adds that the absence of a typical market in Guersif hampers their work and forces them to rent stores to practice their trade for millions of centimes per month, sometimes amounting to five million centimes.
The same speaker said he was surprised by the inability of elected officials and officials to respond to their demands, despite the promises that had been made to them previously, and despite the fact that the olive contributes to the development of Guercif’s economy.
Guersif, despite its fame for olive production, also lacks factories and businesses that benefit the region and provide employment to local residents.
It should be noted that the regional director of agriculture of Guersif indicated that the area insured with olive trees in the region with the Moroccan Mutual Agricultural Insurance (Mamda) amounts to 1,200 hectares, according to the last agricultural campaign of 2023.
