The Japanese group “Mitsubishi” and the Chinese group “PECO” won the contract for the establishment of the “Al-Wahda” power plant in Morocco, with a financial value of 560 billion centimes.
The new plant will rely on two gas turbine units to generate electricity, which will strengthen the Kingdom’s power generation capacity and help meet the growing demand for electricity.
This project is part of Morocco’s strategy to improve and diversify its energy sources, with an emphasis on the use of advanced technologies to improve the efficiency of energy production and reduce emissions of carbon.
The Al-Wahda power plant, located in the commune of Lamjaara in the Ouazzane province, is the third project of its kind after the Tahadart and Ain Beni Mathar power plants.
With an area of 18 hectares and a production capacity of up to 900 megawatts, the unit station will be the largest in Morocco, and will rely on combined cycle technology using natural gas and hydrogen.
The project mainly aims to remedy recurring power outages, promote the integration of renewable energies, achieve energy sovereignty and accelerate the energy transition to cover 52% of Morocco’s energy needs by 2030.
