The General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Prize for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation has signed a memorandum of understanding to produce a documentary film on “The Unknown Pearl of Dates” with the production company Rehab Broad Film from the Kingdom of Morocco, in presence of Dr. Abdel Wahab Zayed, Secretary General of the Prize, and Mr. Abdel Wahed Al Mahtani, Managing Director of the producing company, Wednesday October 30, at the United Arab Emirates pavilion, on the sidelines of the activities of the International Date Forum in Erfoud , Kingdom of Morocco, for its thirteenth session in 2024.
On this occasion, Dr. Zayed praised the importance of this film as it is the first of its kind to document the 100-year journey of the Medjool date variety, which left from the Tafilalet region to the Kingdom of Morocco in 1927 to the United States. United States of America, and from there, where the variety spread and redistributed throughout the earth. It also highlights the scientific dimension of the unknown category (the latest scientific research and studies), by organizing a meeting with experts and specialists in the unknown category around the world.
The Secretary General of the Prize added that this film will highlight the efforts made by the General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Prize for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, from a scientific point of view, to prove the truth about the origin of the unknown variety and correct the name. , and valuing the efforts of the parties concerned by the unknown variety, whether in the Kingdom of Morocco or in the rest of the world And confirming the identity of the unknown variety and its scientific name.
For his part, Mr. Abdul Wahed Al Mahtani, Managing Director of Rehab Broad Company, indicated that we are facing a golden opportunity to make a documentary film on the Medjool variety of Moroccan origin to make the world aware of the importance of this variety and its added value in the world of production, manufacturing and export of luxury dates throughout the world. He added that our film “The Unknown, the Pearl of Dates” will have the opportunity to compete for awards in international film festivals, as we will produce the film according to the highest international standards.
