Our common humanity faces a series of interconnected challenges ranging from climate change and population displacement to a surge in violent conflict alongside a worrying increase in disinformation, intolerance, discrimination and hate speech.
Peace education – as described in the new Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development positions peace as an active process that encompasses both “negative peace”, that is to say the absence of war, and “positive peace”, that is to say the absence of the causes of war.
Peace education, including peace education, opens the perspective of examining the education system as a whole and its relationship with peace and conflict dynamics.
In this broader framework inspired by the Recommendation, this summit calls for peace education to be a tool for social transformation.
