Madrid’s hosting of a forum encouraging investment in the Moroccan Sahara arouses the anger of the Polisario

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Spain and the Madrid Chamber of Commerce organized a Spanish-Moroccan business forum to assess investment opportunities in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region by Spanish companies, an event which aroused the anger of the separatist Polisario Front.

The economic event held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, consolidates the Spanish position in favor of the autonomy proposal for the Moroccan Sahara, with the inclusion of the region of Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab in several agreements with the Madrid City Council and the Madrid region, which supports the promotion of investments in the southern provinces of Morocco, as well as the investment opportunities offered by the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region in several sectors such as fishing , aquaculture, tourism, agriculture and renewable energies.

The forum also discussed important projects such as the Atlantic port of Dakhla, which will strengthen various production sectors, improve logistics infrastructure and create opportunities in the field of international maritime transport, as well as the green hydrogen plant.

Despite the tensions between Morocco and Spain, relief is felt in the economic circles of both countries, with Spain’s historic commitment to the autonomy proposal for the Moroccan Sahara being a powerful driver of economic relations and commercial activities towards further development within the framework of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union, where Spain plays an important role.
