Outgoing US President Joe Biden received his successor Donald Trump, who won the November 5 presidential election, at the White House on Wednesday, becoming the 47th President of the United States.
During this meeting in the Oval Office, the emphasis was placed on the transition phase in anticipation of Trump’s inauguration on January 20, for a second term. Trump declared, on this occasion, that the transition will be “the smoothest ever”, adding to his predecessor: “I really appreciate that, Joe”.
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump met with Republican members of the US Congress, where he welcomed his party’s majority, albeit slim, stressing that the margin “doesn’t matter” . After controlling the Senate, the Republicans are two seats from the majority (218) in the House of Representatives, compared to 207 for their Democratic rivals.
