Equatorial Guinea managed to snatch a goalless draw against group leaders Algeria in qualifying for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 on Thursday, thus validating their ticket to the tournament to be played in Morocco next year.
The locals held the leaders of Group E to a draw, with a final score of 0-0 at the Nuevo Estadio de Malabo, in an intensely contested duel, thus confirming their second place in the group standings.
With this result, Algeria retains the lead in Group E with 13 points, while Equatorial Guinea, second with 8 points, secures a third consecutive participation in the great mass of African football.
Indeed, Liberia, third with four points, can no longer catch up with Equatorial Guinea, with only one match remaining in the group.
Despite several clear chances on both sides, neither selection managed to shake the net.
The Fennecs, who came as leaders, aimed to consolidate their lead. Led by Riyad Mahrez, the Algerian attack proved dangerous with chances for Mohammed Amoura and Ramiz Zerrouki.
However, the Nzalang Nacional defense, well orchestrated by Basilio Ndong and Marvin Anieboh, remained impervious.
