A new lease of life is coming to local sport with the completion of renovation work on the competition field of the Oujda municipal stadium, which was unveiled today by Mr. Wali of the Oriental Region and the responsible Members. of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, on the occasion of the technical reception of the said stadium, with the aim of supporting local sporting dynamism by modernizing the sports facilities. The renovation work carried out required a total cost of 6.2 million dirhams and mainly concerned the development of the competition field with synthetic turf over an area of 7,589.5 m², the installation of a system of watering adapted to the new covering, the construction of a borehole and a water tank to guarantee independent and sustainable water management, and finally the relocation of the existing fence and balloon barriers. Said work will be followed by other developments relating to the metal framework, the stands and changing rooms and the entrance to the stadium. The development of the municipal stadium aims to rehabilitate and upgrade this sports infrastructure located in the center of the city, very popular with 2nd division teams and neighborhood teams. The safeguarding and upgrading of this legendary stadium has a material and highly symbolic value for the residents, particularly for the sporting community. Built in the 1920s in the wake of the sporting movement that marked the Kingdom at the time, the municipal stadium today mainly serves as a training ground and competitions for local clubs, in this case the team of football of the USMO (Muslim Sports Union of Oujda). It is also a development center for young talents in the city. Its average size of around 7,000 spectators makes it a suitable venue for local and regional competitions as well as community sporting events.
