7th Rabat International Marathon: Participation of high-level international athletes representing 64 countries


The seventh edition of the Rabat International Marathon, which will be organized on Sunday, under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, sees the participation of high-level international athletes representing 64 countries, including the title holder, the Moroccan Yassine El Allami.

Many of the participating athletes have times between 2h 5:12 and 2h11:45 for men and 2h 20:89 and 2h 32:54 for women, according to national technical director Abdellah Boukraa.

The Moroccan participation is promising, especially in the presence of experienced athletes like Othmane El Goumri, national record holder (2h 05:12), as well as Mouhcine Outelha, Hemza Sahli, Yassine Allami and Moustapha Joudadi, said Mr. Boukraa, Saturday during the press conference to present the participating athletes.

Moroccan athletes prepare for these games throughout the year at athletics centers in the different regions of the Kingdom and at the National Athletics Institute, given that this marathon is tough and requires a good level, especially in presence of Kenyan and Ethiopian competitors.

For her part, Ms. Hakima Benchrifa, member of the organizing committee, indicated that this event, which has acquired an international reputation, concretizes the civilizational and urban development of Rabat, city of light and capital of the Kingdom, in accordance with the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI.

On the occasion of this marathon, which takes place within the framework of the transformation that the capital of the Kingdom is experiencing as an economic, tourist and cultural hub, Rabat will welcome participants from 64 countries, including renowned international and Moroccan athletes, said Ms. Benchrifa.

This competition also offers the opportunity to discover the historical, tourist and natural monuments that Rabat abounds in, she stressed.

Among the international participants, the Kenyan Ruben Kiprop Kipyego posted one of the best times with 2h 05:22, alongside Ethiopians Abraraw Misganaw and Bedada Belay Asefa, with 2h 06:39.

Moroccan athletics will be represented by Othmane El Goumri (2h 05:12), Reda Arabi (2h 06:55) and Hamza Sahli (2h 07:20).

On the women’s side, the Ethiopian Gelete Burka (2h 20:89) appears as a favorite, alongside the Moroccans Rehma Tahiri (2h 24:51), Roukia Moukim (2h 26:51) and Keltoum Bouassria (2h 26:54) .

The last edition of the Rabat International Marathon was won by the Moroccan Yassine El Allami in the men’s race, and his compatriot Fatima-Zahra Kardadi in the women’s race.
