HIBAPRESS-RABAT
A few days ago, Marca, the Spanish newspaper, revealed the ranking of the 100 best players for the 2023/24 season. 7 Africans are among these footballers
Mohamed Salah
The Pharaoh is first on this list. Leader of the Liverpool attack since 2017, Mohamed Salah once again carried the Reds during the last exercise. With his 25 goals and 14 assists in 44 matches in all competitions. Even if he only won the League Cup, Moh Salah is the first of all African players in this ranking. The Egyptian is 31st in the world.
Victor Boniface
Despite a muscle and tendon injury to the right adductor which deprived him of the CAN 2023 with the Super Eagles of Nigeria who finished with the silver medal behind the Ivory Coast, Victor Boniface is the second African player in this ranking. Author of 21 goals and 10 assists in 34 matches last season, he is 51st in the world. Boniface won the Bundesliga, the German Cup and was runner-up in the Europa League.
Serhou Guirassy
With Stuttgart. Serhou Guirassy fought a tough surface fox battle with Harry Kane for the title of top scorer in the Bundesliga. And even if he lost it (28 goals in 28 games compared to 36 for the Englishman), the Guinean came away with the best season of his career with 30 goals and 3 assists in all competitions. Unfortunately, he did not win any trophies and came injured to the CAN in Ivory Coast with the national Syli. Third in Africa, Guirassy is ranked 56th in the world in this Marca Top 100.
Ademola Lookman
History will remember that it was a Nigerian who gave Atalanta Bergamo their first European trophy. the hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen is undoubtedly the most notable moment of Lookman’s season who, in all competitions, has scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 matches. He is 4th in the ranking of African players and 65th in the world.
Ayoub El Kaabi
His 2023-2024 season went unnoticed by many, but Ayoub El Kaabi was monstrous for Olympiakos. In all competitions, he has scored 33 goals and provided 3 assists in 50 matches. It was he who offered the Europa Conference League to the Greeks with the winning goal in the 116th minute. He is 5th in the African rankings and 76th in the world.
Odilon Kossounou
The young Ivorian defender was one of the architects of Bayer Leverkusen’s memorable 2023-2024 season. Fast and intelligent in his positioning but especially in his tackling (only 4 yellow cards over the entire season), Kossounou played a total of 34 matches and had the luxury of scoring a goal. It was a header against Union Berlin in a 4-0 victory. Sixth in Africa, the 2023 African champion is 78th in the world.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
He was the providential man for Olympique Marseille. At the age of 34, he carried OM on his shoulders throughout the season, scoring 30 goals and 11 assists in 51 matches in all competitions. He finished top scorer in the Europa League with 11 goals in 13 matches. Unfortunately, OM were eliminated in the semi-final by Atalanta Bergamo. Seventh in Africa, Auba is 94th in the world.
