Spain canceled an annual bullfighting competition yesterday, Friday

The Culture Ministry said it made its decision to cancel the prize due to the “new social and cultural context in Spain”, with concerns about the treatment of animals increasing, while attendance at bullfighting arenas is declining in most regions, according to Reuters.

The Minister of Culture, Ernest Ortason, declared on the “X” platform: “The majority of Spaniards feel incomprehension about the reasons for the practice of animal torture in the country… not to mention the public financing of this torture. »

The national prize was in the form of a government grant worth 30,000 euros ($32,217) and was awarded to famous bullfighters like Julian Lopez, known as “El Juli”, or to cultural associations linked to the traditions of bullfighting.
