The International Football Federation (FIFA) has just published the first edition of the world futsal rankings in which Morocco occupies 6th place in the world for men.

First place goes to Brazil (1568.41 pts), ahead of Portugal (1527.61 pts) and Spain (1514.42 pts). Hicham Dguig’s men, who have just won their 3rd African Cup of Nations in the discipline, have a total of 1430.55 points.

Futsal has experienced exponential growth in recent years, to the point that the creation of this ranking can be considered a natural evolution, writes the governing body of world football, adding that it is also a great innovation since, for the first time, the men’s and women’s rankings are inaugurated at the same time. The inaugural edition of these two rankings is based on statistics from more than 4,600 international “A” matches. FIFA defines an international “A” match as any match between two FIFA member associations for which both member associations field their first representative team (“A” selection).

The new system will also be used to designate the seeds for future editions of the Futsal World Cup, notably, as recently announced, during the draw for the Uzbekistan-2024 World Cup. It will also be used for the qualification procedure. Finally, it will make it possible to collect complete and consistent data on member associations, in accordance with the regulations for FIFA international matches, concludes FIFA.
