Tennis: Morocco crowned African U14 champion, qualified for the World Cup


Morocco was crowned African team tennis champion in the under-14 boys and girls category, at the end of this competition organized from May 6 to 11 in Tunisia, thereby winning its ticket for the World Cup. world, scheduled for the Czech Republic next August.

Under the supervision of coach Hamid Abderrazak, the men’s national team composed of Reda El Aouni, Mehdi Laabi and Sami Iraqui Houssaini won in the group stage against Algeria, Tunisia and Uganda before to win the semi-final with a score of 3 to 0 against their South African counterpart and the final against the Tunisian selection with the same score.

The women’s selection headed by national coach Mohamed El Ghaba and composed of Yassmine Douib, Meryem Achouri and Lara Faraj won the category championship thanks to its victories against Tunisia, Algeria and Zimbabwe in the group stage.

In the semi-final, the girls’ tennis team won against their South African counterpart with a score of 3-0 and in the final against Egypt (3-0).

Thanks to this coronation, Morocco has booked its ticket for the Tennis World Cup which will be held in the Czech Republic next August.

In a statement to MAP, Zakaria Zemrani, member of the steering committee of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation, highlighted the team spirit, cohesion and harmony between young Moroccan players and the quality of the supervision of the coaches, which made it possible to achieve such a wonderful journey, crowned by the African coronation.

And to add that this achievement enriches Morocco’s record in this discipline, where the Kingdom was crowned champion in several age categories at the African level, which earned it the trophy for the Best Tennis Nation in Africa, in the year 2024, for the 6th consecutive year.
