The number of beneficiaries of the school transport service for the 2023/2024 school year reached 580,000 (including 83% in rural areas), an increase of 31% compared to the 2021/2022 school year, indicated , Monday in Rabat, the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa.
The school transport service is part of the specific responsibilities of the prefectures and provinces, underlined Mr. Benmoussa, in response to an oral question in the House of Representatives on school transport in the rural world, noting that given the capital importance of this service, its department works to accompany and support its improvement.
The number of school buses has seen significant development to the extent that it reached around 8,900 buses during the current school year, or more than 26% compared to the 2021/2022 school season, he said.
This development is explained by the efforts made by the territorial councils, the National Initiative for Human Development and other actors and partners, continued the minister, noting that his department aspires, by 2026, to achieve 700,000 beneficiaries and 10,000 school buses.
In order to improve this service, the Department of National Education is working in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior to establish an integrated plan, which will be implemented in the short term and which is based on the development of innovative models of management of this vital service of the education system, noted the government official.
