21 dead and 2,808 injured: results of road accidents in urban areas in one week

21 people lost their lives and 2,808 were injured, including 107 seriously, in 2,074 road accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week of May 13 to 19.

According to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the main causes of these accidents are: inattention of drivers, failure to respect priority, excessive speed, inattention of pedestrians, loss of control, changing direction without signaling, failure to obey the stop sign, prohibited changes of direction, failure to respect safety distances, driving on the left, failure to comply with red lights, driving in the wrong direction, drunk driving and dangerous overtaking.

With regard to operations to control and suppress traffic offenses, the DGSN services recorded 39,147 offenses, drafted 6,891 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office and collected 32,256 fixed fines.

The total amount of fines collected amounts to 7,047,675 dirhams. In addition, 4,414 vehicles were impounded municipally, 6,891 documents were removed and 201 vehicles were immobilized.
