Arsène Wenger, the Director of Development of World Football of FIFA, spoke at the ECA Club Connect in Madrid (Spain)
The FIFA 2025 ™ club World Cup will help clubs around the world strengthen
According to the former Arsenal coach, players must be freer on the field
Arsène Wenger, the Director of World Football Development of FIFA, explained that the FIFA 2025 ™ FIFA Club World Cup will help clubs around the world strengthen, and that non -European clubs will have a bigger role to play in terms of playing and training for players.
The most inclusive interclub global competition in history will bring together 32 of the best teams on the planet in the United States from June 14 to July 13. FIFA has planned an endowment of USD 1 billion for participants, while clubs around the world will also benefit from solidarity payments.
“We want strong clubs all over the world,” said Arsène Wenger at the Connect event of the European Club Association (ECA) organized in Madrid (Spain). “Let us not forget that it is the clubs that are responsible for the development of players. »»
“Today, all young talents around the world want to come to Europe. For what ? Because in their country, they do not have the opportunity to play at a good level. If we manage to establish solid entities all over the world, they will be able to advance a greater number of players and will contribute to the development of football in their country, “he said.
“For me, the fact that the Club World Cup involves clubs from all continents is a good thing. »»
Mr. Wenger also mentioned the FIFA talent development programwhich is currently deployed in more than 200 of the 211 FIFA member associations, and which aims to give each talented player the possibility of being detected, to receive good training and potentially pursue a career in football.
He explained that after taking office at FIFA in November 2019, he realized that, in most countries of the world, a lot of children did not have the opportunity to play football.
“We also realized that the first 20 countries in the FIFA ranking also display the best level in terms of training and education. This meant that in 70% of the countries of the world, there was no detection of talents, training programs and training of coaches, and no truly qualitative competitions.
“Thus, we have created a program that intends to give each talent a chance ‘ – to each young girl or boy all over the world. We are also creating academies around the planet. We go to different countries, we detect talents, we establish academies, we send the coaches that we form to develop football everywhere. »»
FIFA has already created 28 academies in which specialized education coaches provide young players with training conditions in accordance with best practices.
According to Arsène Wenger, it is essential to allow players to give free rein to their creativity.
“I think that for the past twenty years, players have been less freedom than before. We especially emphasized the importance of being well structured.
“I have the impression that we are asking players to do what they have been taught, and that they are no longer free to express themselves as they see fit. Having too many instructions is killing creativity. Training – and training of coaches – therefore constitutes an essential aspect. If we follow and look at football, it is to see things we do not expect. We love this sport because we like this element of surprise. We like to see a player do something unexpected.
“We must bring back the unpredictability and train players who have their own personality. We must develop this personality and encourage creativity from an early age. This is an important aspect that we must absolutely treat. »»
