Smuggling of more than a ton of drugs thwarted at the port of Tangier

The national security forces, in collaboration with the customs services of the port of Tangier-Med, succeeded, in the early hours of this Saturday, March 16, in thwarting an attempt to smuggle more than a ton and 200 kilograms of cannabis-type drugs aboard a truck for international goods transport registered in Morocco.

Surveillance and inspection operations at the borders led to the seizure of the carefully hidden quantities of drugs inside compartments specially fitted in the metal structure of the truck. Furthermore, search procedures led to the arrest of the driver, a 28-year-old Moroccan citizen.

The suspect was subjected to a judicial investigation supervised by the competent prosecutor’s office to reveal all accomplices in this case, as well as to determine the alleged national and international ramifications of this criminal activity.

This case is part of the intensive and ongoing security operations carried out by the various competent authorities, aimed at combating international smuggling of drugs and psychotropic substances.
