The United Arab Emirates announced on Wednesday the launch of a new model of artificial intelligence (AI) in Arabic, presented as the most efficient in the region.
The country had unveiled in 2023 Falcon, an “open source” model developed by the Institute of Technological Innovation (TTI) in Abu Dhabi, which compared to industry leaders, notably Chatgpt d’Openai.
“We are proud to finally bring Arabic to Falcon, and even more proud than the most efficient model of the Arab world was built in the United Arab Emirates”, welcomed Faisal al-Bannai, the general secretary of the Research Council on the advanced technologies of Abu Dhabi (ATRC), who oversees the project, quoted in a press release.
Falcon Arabic has been trained on Arabic language data covering the various dialects in the region, and “equals the performance of models up to 10 times larger”, according to the press release.
ATRC has also announced the launch of Falcon-H1, a model that makes it possible to “reduce computing power and technical expertise traditionally required to operate advanced systems”, according to the same source.
Being a leader in AI today is producing useful, usable and universal tools, underlined Faisal al-Bannai, adding that “Falcon-H1 reflects our commitment to delivering AI that works for everyone”.
Since their launch, the different Falcon models have been downloaded 45 million times worldwide, according to the official WAM news agency.
The Emirates rely on this technology in the context of efforts to diversify their economy and reduce its dependence on hydrocarbons.
