Construction sector: Bosses predict growth in activity

The expectations expressed by business leaders in the construction sector for the second quarter of 2024 (Q2-2024) show growth in activity, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

This growth would result from the expected increase in activity in the branches of “Building construction”, “Specialized construction work” and “Civil engineering”, explains the HCP in its information note on the results of the quarterly surveys. economic situation in the manufacturing, extractive, energy, environmental and construction sectors.

Additionally, the workforce employed in the construction sector is expected to see an increase in Q2-2024.

At the same time, the HCP indicates that in the first quarter (Q1-2024), activity in the construction sector would have increased. This progression would be due, on the one hand, to the increase in activity in the “Building construction” and “Civil engineering” branches and, on the other hand, to the stability of activity in the construction branch. “Specialized construction work”.

Order books would have remained at a normal level and employment would have increased slightly. Under these conditions, the production capacity utilization rate (TUC) in the construction sector would have stood at 65%.

Furthermore, 10% of construction companies would have encountered difficulties in supplying raw materials in Q1-2024, and cash flow would have been considered “difficult” by 46% of business leaders.
