In Washington, Morocco presents its experience in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Morocco’s Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, participated Monday in Washington in a meeting chaired by the American Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs, Bonnie Jenkins, who addressed the sustainable dialogue on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, science and technology.

During this meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the US Department of State, Mr. Amrani praised the efforts made within the framework of the initiative “Sustainable Dialogue on the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technologies”, considered “an important platform and a valuable partner” in the field of scientific and technological cooperation in various key sectors, including water, environment, food and health.

He explained that the objectives of this initiative are in line with Morocco’s national priorities contained in the new development model, as well as with the Kingdom’s commitments in terms of sustainable development objectives.

In this context, the ambassador recalled that Morocco is actively engaged in sustainable dialogue activities on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, science and technology, particularly through its specialized agencies, such as the National Center of Energy, Nuclear Sciences and Techniques and the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR).

Mr. Amrani stressed that, since joining the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 1957, Morocco has integrated nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes in various sectors, thus benefiting from significant cooperation and support of the IAEA, in particular through training, expertise and the acquisition of cutting-edge equipment.

He also mentioned the recognition enjoyed by the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security and the National Center for Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology at the regional and continental levels, as centers of excellence for capacity building, training and technical support, as well as for the promotion of relevant regulations.

The ambassador highlighted Morocco’s support to African countries in this area, expressing the Kingdom’s desire to develop trilateral and multilateral cooperation initiatives, including the initiative for sustainable dialogue on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. , science and technology, the IAEA and interested Member States.

He said these partnerships could contribute to the development of knowledge and skills in this important area across Africa.

The “Sustainable Dialogue on the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology” initiative aims to support progress and the right of everyone to enjoy the benefits of the peaceful uses of nuclear technology, as stipulated in the Treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

This initiative also aspires to create a collaborative platform to better identify areas where the use of nuclear technology has a major impact, as part of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
