Berlin, the German capital, hosted the 51st edition of its international marathon, one of the world’s most prominent “major” races, on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Thousands of runners from various continents participated, including young Moroccan runners eager to experience this global event.
The Moroccan runners participating in the Berlin Marathon this year demonstrated a strong national spirit. Their participation aimed to represent Morocco in a major international event and to gain experience by interacting with seasoned international runners accustomed to competing in such major races. While reaching the top positions proved difficult against the dominance of Kenyan, Ethiopian, and Japanese runners, simply being at the starting line among these world champions is a significant step for the young Moroccan runners. This is a crucial stage in building experience that will benefit them in upcoming continental and international competitions. Morocco’s participation in such events reflects a desire to revive the glory of the Moroccan long-distance running school and open new horizons for an aspiring generation aiming to honor the national flag in major global races. These events also offer an opportunity to immerse themselves in high-level competitive atmospheres and learn about the latest training and technical management methods. On the results front, Kenyan Sebastian Sawe won the men’s race with a time of 2:02:16, while his compatriot Rosemary Wangiro won the women’s race, completing the course in 2:21:05, in a strong race bringing together a selection of the world’s top runners.
