Tax revenues reached 16.3 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) at the end of May, up 23.2% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the General Treasury of the Kingdom (TGR).
This development is explained by the increase of 37.3% in direct taxes and 14.9% in indirect taxes. Tax revenues constituted 82.9% of the overall revenues of local authorities at the end of May 2024.
Standing at 12.3 billion dirhams at the end of May 2024 compared to 10.8 billion dirhams a year earlier, the resources transferred are up 13.7%, reports the same source.
This results from the increase of 12.1% in the share of local authorities in the VAT product (+874 million dirhams MDH)), 37.2% in the share of the regions in the IS product and IR (+574 MDH), 66.7% of competition funds (+273 MDH) and the share of local authorities in the proceeds of the tax on insurance contracts (+233 MDH), combined with the 28.9% reduction in subsidies (-473 MDH).
As for the resources managed by the State on behalf of local authorities at the end of May 2024, they reached 3.3 billion dirhams compared to 2.3 billion dirhams a year earlier, an increase of 46.9% coming from the increase 50.1% of the municipal services tax (+842 MDH), 38.6% of the professional tax (+153 MDH) and 35.6% of the housing tax (+62 MDH).
As for the resources managed by local authorities, they stood at 4.09 billion dirhams at the end of May 2024, compared to more than 3.724 billion dirhams recorded a year earlier, an increase of 9.8%.
These resources consist largely of revenue from the tax on undeveloped urban land (1.29 billion dirhams), the temporary occupation fee for municipal public property (463 million dirhams), state revenue (349 million dirhams), the tax on construction operations (345 MDH) and royalties on the revenue of agents of the wholesale fruit and vegetable market (246 MDH)
Furthermore, the evolution of the structure of resources of local authorities between the end of May 2023 and the end of May 2024, highlights a decrease in the share of resources transferred and the share of resources managed by local authorities, combined with an increase in the share of resources managed by the State.
