The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced on Monday the death of 8 passengers and the injury of 14 others in a bus overturning accident in Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt (240 km) south of Cairo.
The Ministry stated in a statement published on its Facebook page that "34 ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene of a bus overturning accident that occurred on Monday morning on the Eastern Desert Road in the center of Beni Mazar in Minya Governorate, heading towards Cairo." The Ministry indicated in an initial report that the injured were transferred to Samalut Model Hospital to receive treatment and the necessary medical care. Initial investigations by criminal investigation officers revealed that the bus was carrying a number of passengers who were heading from Cairo to Qena, Sohag, and Luxor governorates, including a number of people from Ismailia and Suez governorates, then the driver lost control of the steering wheel, which caused the bus to overturn on the road. The Egyptian newspaper "Al-Watan" quoted one of the injured as saying that the cause of the accident was the bus driver being preoccupied with playing a "music flash drive."
