French media reports indicated on Tuesday that the South African ambassador to Paris was found dead after falling from the 22nd floor of a hotel.
Le Figaro newspaper, quoting the public prosecutor's office, said that Emanual Mthwethwa was found dead on Tuesday morning near the Hyatt hotel in the 17th arrondissement. It added: "It is believed that the South African ambassador jumped from the window." "Le Parisien" also stated: "It is believed that the 58-year-old diplomat jumped from the twenty-second floor of the four-star hotel." The public prosecutor's office explained: "The ambassador had booked a room on the twenty-second floor, and its safety window was forced open." The ambassador's wife had reported him missing the previous day, saying she had received a disturbing message from him on Monday evening. The Brigade for the Repression of Crimes against Persons (BRDP) is investigating the case.
