HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The "Generals" have mobilized a number of Algerian electronic accounts to target posts from Moroccan news websites and Facebook pages by publishing inciting comments and messages, with the aim of expanding the scope of chaos and turning peaceful protests demanding reform of the health and education sectors into acts of sabotage and offense against the state's sanctities.
The aforementioned accounts worked to amplify the discourse of anger and transform it from social and professional demands into calls for intrusion and sabotage, targeting pages with a large youth audience and news posts conveying scenes of protests and field reports. Some users and digital activists accused what they described as "electronic organizations" of managing systematic campaigns of misinformation and incitement through direct comments and the re-publication of disturbing content in languages and formats designed to provoke division, which, according to them, led to an escalation of tension in some areas and the emergence of limited acts of violence that later turned into confrontations that resulted in material losses and injuries. For their part, most of the news pages and youth groups following the protests called for caution from suspicious accounts, demanding the verification of information sources and the countering of inciting comments by reporting them to the social media platforms.
