HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The former head of government and Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party, Abdelilah Benkirane, commented on the peaceful protests that were followed by acts of rioting, chaos, and destruction in a number of Moroccan cities.
Benkirane said in a statement to HIBAPRESS: "The protests led by a number of young people are normal, but the slips we witnessed during the last two days of assault and destruction of property are completely unacceptable." He added, "Those who are doing this seem to be young kids who don't know what they are doing. Yesterday there were deaths, and this is a big thing for me because the soul is precious to God, whether they are protesters or security men because they are all Moroccans." Benkirane called for a halt to these protests, stressing that the message had reached the concerned parties, adding: "The country is run by reasonable people, headed by His Majesty the King who knows what he is doing."
