A plane belonging to the Spanish airline "Vueling" landed today, Saturday, at Essaouira Mogador International Airport, marking the opening of a new air route linking Seville, Spain, to the city of winds.
This air route, which operates at a rate of one flight per week (every Saturday), comes to strengthen the connection of the city of Essaouira and its position on the global tourism map. On this occasion, a ceremony was organized inside the airport in the presence of many local officials, tourism actors, and representatives of the airline "Vueling", to celebrate the launch of this new route, which reflects the increasing interest of European tourists in the jewel of the Atlantic Ocean. The head of the Regional Tourism Council, Redouane Khan, praised the opening of this route, noting that it is the first direct route between Essaouira and Seville. He affirmed that "this route represents an important opportunity for the Andalusian market, which is historically close to our region, and will also contribute to diversifying tourists and strengthening the vision of Essaouira by 2026". On the other hand, Khan expressed his gratitude to the institutional and private partners who contributed to the opening of this new air route, praising in particular, the role of the Moroccan National Tourist Office and its "great efforts" in promoting the Essaouira destination. For their part, a number of passengers praised in similar statements, the launch of this direct air route, pointing to the time-saving, comfort and proximity between the two shores that it provides. This air route comes in light of a strong increase in passenger traffic at Essaouira Mogador Airport, which saw a growth of 48.62 percent in passenger traffic during last September, receiving 29,410 passengers compared to 19,789 during the same period in 2024. According to data from the airport administration, aircraft traffic also saw a noticeable growth of 53.52 percent, increasing from 142 to 218 (departure and arrival). Thanks to this new air route, Essaouira Mogador Airport is now linked to ten global destinations, most of them in Europe, especially Paris, London, Brussels, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lyon, Dusseldorf, Madrid and Seville, in addition to a regular domestic air route linking Essaouira to Rabat. This new air route also falls within the framework of a comprehensive strategy to enhance the demand for Essaouira, the city included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, whose cultural and tourism radiance is enhanced at the global level.
