Just two days after the bloody attack that targeted a synagogue in Manchester, Britain witnessed a new incident, which was the deliberate arson of a mosque in the town of Peacehaven near Brighton, while two people were inside, in an incident suspected to be a hate crime amid a noticeable rise in incidents of violence in the country this summer.
According to what the CNN website reported, the British police confirmed yesterday evening, Saturday, that the fire was intentionally started inside the mosque, while two men in their sixties were drinking tea inside, before they heard a loud explosion that pushed them to escape outside as the fire consumed the main entrance. The surveillance cameras showed two masked men trying to open the door several times, before pouring gasoline on the ground, the door, and the car of the mosque's head parked in front of the building, then setting it on fire and fleeing. The director of the mosque said in a statement that was reported by the media: "The two men could have easily died, as the attackers came with the intention of causing the greatest possible damage. The mosque is usually a quiet place loved by everyone." The police pointed out that the fire consumed the facade of the mosque and caused material damage to the car parked in front of it, without recording any human injuries, confirming in its statement that "the repercussions of this incident will be strongly felt by the Muslim community" in the small coastal town.
