The office of the National Assembly in France, in its meeting of its members today, Wednesday, rejected the proposal to impeach President Emmanuel Macron, which was submitted by the "France Unbowed" movement, while the resigned Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu continues last chance consultations to form a new government.
The party had called for consideration of the impeachment proposal after Lecornu announced his resignation from the post of Prime Minister, the day before yesterday, Monday. The proposal was supported by 104 deputies, according to the German agency "DPA".
However, when voting today, 10 members of the office opposed the proposal, while five supported it and five deputies from the far-right "National Rally" abstained from voting.
Mathilde Panot, head of the "France Unbowed" party bloc, said to reporters after the vote: "Again, as usual, the National Rally saves Emmanuel Macron."
The bloc demands the impeachment of Macron and calls for early presidential elections as a last resort to end the government paralysis, but the French President refuses the idea of stepping down before the end of his second term in 2027.
In the meantime, the last chance negotiations led by the resigned Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu with the political forces continue today, specifically with the Socialists, Greens and Communists.
Lecornu is expected to submit a report to President Macron afterwards, and to give a speech this evening on the news bulletin of the "France 2" channel.
