Morocco wins the African Beach Volleyball Championship and qualifies for the 2024 Olympics

The Moroccan men’s beach volleyball team qualified on Sunday for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by winning the African championship which took place in Martil.

The Moroccan men’s team, made up of Zouheir Elgraoui and Mohamed Abicha, retained their African title by beating the Mozambique team in the final in two sets to zero (21-18, 21-12).

The Moroccan team reached the final by triumphing over the South African team, which finished third, in two sets to one (18-21, 21-18, 15-10).

In the women’s category, the Egyptian selection won its ticket to the Paris Olympic Games, winning the African title against its Nigerian opponent in two sets to one (15-21, 21-16, 15-08).

The Moroccan women’s team settled for third place after losing in the semi-final against their Egyptian counterpart.

The president of the Royal Moroccan Volleyball Federation (FRMVB), Bouchra Hajij, stressed that the Moroccan men’s beach volleyball team continues to dominate at the African level, after winning all its matches during this African championship, thus ensuring its participation in the Olympic Games for the second consecutive time.

Ms. Hajij, also president of the African Volleyball Confederation, noted that the ambition of the Moroccan selection and the FRMVB is to do well at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and to honor African beach volleyball, especially more than the Moroccan players have acquired sufficient experience and are showing cohesion.

For his part, Moroccan player Zouheir Elgraoui stressed that the title was not easy to win, due to the quality of play of the participating teams, who showed significant progress compared to the previous edition, affirming the determination of the national team to honor Moroccan and African beach volleyball at the Olympic Games.

This championship, organized under the patronage of King Mohammed VI by the African Volleyball Confederation, in coordination with the FRMVB, saw the participation of the best African teams, with 17 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams.

It should be noted that Martil is hosting, this Monday, the African beach volleyball championship for under-19s, qualifying for the world championship in China.
