The French presidency announced on Sunday evening the formation of the new government headed by Sébastien Lecornu, which saw the reappointment of Roland Lescure as Minister of Finance.
The announcement came shortly after the resignation of the previous government, which lasted only 14 hours, in a rare political scene reflecting the great challenges facing the French executive branch. Lescure assumes the finance portfolio at a time when the government faces great pressure to approve the 2026 budget before a deeply divided parliament, which requires the government team to work quickly and effectively to achieve its financial and economic goals. Lecornu confirmed that the current government's priority is to pass the budget before the end of the year, stressing that the new formation is designed to ensure the stability of executive work and face upcoming economic challenges.
