Milan Office – Abdelatif Al-Baz
The Italian Consulate in Casablanca witnessed peaceful protests by a group of people wishing to immigrate, protesting the delay in processing visa applications and the difficulty of the related procedures. The protesters sent a clear message reflecting their escalating suffering in light of the complexity of the conditions and the lengthening of waiting times.
In a remarkable step, the Consul General of Italy in Casablanca intervened, demanding a meeting with two of the protesters, with the condition of proficiency in the Italian language as a basic condition for direct communication. This initiative comes in an attempt to open a direct dialogue with the representatives of the protesters, amid questions about the possibility of generalizing the meeting and expanding the scope of the dialogue to include the widest segment of those concerned.
These movements come in the context of the escalating pressure on the Italian Consulate, which is facing increasing demand from Moroccans wishing to immigrate, at a time when the European visa file is witnessing multiple complications and problems.
