HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
The National Association of Local Authority Employees in Morocco has urgently addressed a complaint to the Mediator Institution, demanding immediate intervention to put an end to what it described as "systematic discrimination" affecting local authority employees in their dealings with the administration.
The association affirmed that this category suffers from administrative marginalization and significant disparities in wages and promotions compared to other state employees, despite their undertaking vital tasks in the areas of planning, taxation, and social services. The association accused the Ministry of Interior of imposing an "exclusionary" basic system without genuine agreement with the most representative unions, considering this a violation of the principles of the constitution and international conventions. The association also called for opening a comprehensive national dialogue, and reviewing the basic system to achieve justice and equality, warning of the escalation of tension within a vital sector that is considered a pillar of local development.
