HIBAPRESS – Fes Office
The investigating judge in charge of financial crimes at the Court of Appeal in Fes decided, yesterday, Tuesday, October 14th, to postpone consideration of the file of the former head of the Meknassa Sharqia commune until December 3rd, 2025.
The person concerned, who headed the Meknassa Sharqia commune council for more than twenty years and is currently a municipal councilor for the Istiqlal party, is being prosecuted on suspicion of squandering public funds, abuse of power, and betrayal. The investigating judge decided to follow up with him while on bail, subjecting him to judicial supervision twice a week. The Attorney General at the Court of Appeal in Fes had referred the file to the investigating judge after receiving a complaint from the current municipal council of Meknassa Sharqia, of the Popular Movement party. The complaint, filed on September 15th, 2022, came after the council members unanimously approved a decision to prosecute the former president due to what they considered serious irregularities in the management of the commune's affairs. The complaint includes accusations against the former president of disposing of public property outside legal controls, mismanagement of public tenders, awarding request documents in suspicious ways, in addition to squandering public money and abusing power to achieve personal benefits. The investigating judge is expected to continue to listen to the parties concerned in the next session scheduled for the beginning of December, pending the outcome of the investigations into these files, which have been described as "heavy".
