The town of Tifnasta, belonging to the municipality of Izmouren, in Al Hoceima province, witnessed on Thursday evening the outbreak of a major fire in one of the region's mountains, which sparked a state of high alert among the residents and local authorities.
As soon as the flames spread, elements of the Civil Protection and local authorities rushed to the scene, in an attempt to control the fire and limit its spread towards the forest cover and nearby homes. Field equipment and field intervention teams were also deployed, working intensively to extinguish the fire. The climatic conditions and the speed of the wind are likely to have contributed to the expansion of the fire, which increased the difficulty of the extinguishing process. While no human injuries have been recorded to date, the environmental damage may be significant if the fire continues. The causes of the fire remain unknown to date, pending the results of the investigations launched by the competent authorities.
