The Spanish police in the city of Valencia arrested an Algerian man on charges of kidnapping four of his five children and taking them to Algeria without the consent of their former mother.
According to Spanish media sources, the judiciary classified the incident as a crime of illegal detention of minors, deciding to place the accused in temporary prison without the possibility of release on bail, pending the completion of the investigation under the supervision of the investigating judge. The father's arrest came after the mother, residing in the Tabernes Blanques area, filed an official complaint accusing her ex-husband of taking the children to Algeria during August 2025, speaking of mistreatment that the minors are believed to have been subjected to since leaving Spanish territory. In the context of the case, the Spanish National Police began coordinating with their Algerian counterparts in order to determine the whereabouts of the children inside Algeria, in preparation for ensuring their return to Spain as soon as possible, while ensuring their psychological and physical safety. The case received widespread attention in Valencia, especially since the family is known in the area, while the mother expressed great concern about the fate of her children, demanding urgent intervention from the Spanish and Algerian authorities to ensure their protection and their recovery as soon as possible.
