The Spanish People's Party criticized the Spanish government's leniency towards irregular migration waves towards the Spanish coasts, at a time when the party decided to demand "the questioning of Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska within the Interior Committee of the Spanish Parliament, against the background of his recent meetings with Algerian officials and the ambiguity and lies surrounding the Frontex agency file in the Balearic Islands," according to the Spanish Europa Press agency.
The Algerian coasts are a major source of migrant flows. The branch of the People's Party in the Balearic Islands explained in an official statement that the aim of this step is to push the Spanish Interior Minister to provide clarifications about what transpired with the Algerian authorities, especially after the Algerian coasts became a major source of illegal migrants flowing towards Spain. Deputy José Vicente Marí said that Marlaska "woke up very late after seven years of repeated warnings about the doubling of the number of migrants coming from Algeria via mafia boats," adding that the minister "denied throughout this period the existence of a migration route used by human trafficking gangs starting from Algeria." José Marí confirmed that "the minister only acted after Marga Prohens visited Brussels to seek help in addressing this human hemorrhage." Demands to protect the citizens of the Balearic Islands from the chaos of migration. The People's Party also criticized what it described as "lies" that accompanied the Frontex file, as it pointed out that the Spanish government's delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, claimed before the Senate that the European agency had strengthened its presence in the maritime area since last February. But Frontex spokesman Chris Borowski denied these allegations, confirming that "the agency has not deployed any elements in the Balearic Islands because the Spanish government did not submit any official request in this regard." In conclusion of his statements, Marí demanded the resignation of Alfonso Rodríguez, who "was busy defending Pedro Sánchez instead of protecting the citizens of the Balearic Islands from the chaos of migration."
