French deputies did not vote, on Saturday, on a proposal submitted by the Socialist Party to impose a wealth tax, which led to the postponement of the possibility of reaching a settlement in the budget debate, which threatens to bring down the government of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu with a fragile majority.
The party belonging to the center-left had submitted an amendment within the 2026 budget project, including a limited version of a comprehensive tax that economist Gabriel Zucman has long called for, according to what Bloomberg News Agency reported. Budget Minister Amélie de Montchalin pointed out on Saturday evening that the discussion of previous amendments took a long time, and attention will be focused on other priority items tomorrow, Monday, which led to the postponement of the vote on the wealth tax to a later time during the week.
