In a horrific incident, a young man from the city of Nador lost his life in a truck accident in Meknes, after being forcibly deported from Nador under suspicious and illegal circumstances.
This incident comes within the framework of a campaign described as random, targeting people suspected of attempting illegal immigration to Europe. The victim, who grew up in Nador and had not left it throughout his life, was arrested and deported by the local authorities, without any legal justification. He was transferred to the city of Meknes, with which he had no connection, where he died in a truck accident while crossing the road. The accident highlights the administrative violations that are detached from the spirit of law and justice. Human rights activists point out that what happened is a blatant violation of citizens' rights, violating the Moroccan constitution and freedom of movement laws, where a central question is raised: Can the deportation of a Moroccan citizen from his city be justified based on illegal assumptions such as "being an irregular migrant" or "from the South"? And how do we ensure that this tragedy does not happen again with others in the future? The event sparked a state of anger in Nador, where residents considered what happened a "collective insult" that affects the dignity of citizens. Many of them express their concern about the absence of a clear policy in dealing with migrants, and the unjustified mixing between "irregular migrants" and "local citizens", which casts a shadow on the rights of individuals to safety within their homeland. Demands are increasing today to open a comprehensive investigation into the incident, determine legal responsibilities, and call on local and international human rights organizations to follow up on the case, to ensure respect for human rights and the protection of the dignity of Moroccans throughout the Kingdom.
