The head of the parliamentary group of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the House of Representatives, Ahmed Touizi, called on the government to show political courage to reconsider the butane gas subsidy system, stressing that the poor do not benefit from this support as intended, but rather the affluent benefit from it in their agricultural and industrial activities.
Touizi explained, in an intervention during the general discussion of the 2026 Finance Bill in the Finance and Economic Development Committee in the House of Representatives, today, Tuesday, that the government allocates a financial envelope estimated at 35 billion dirhams to support butane gas, pointing out that most of this large amount is directed to those who are not entitled to it. The speaker stressed the need to adopt the Unified Social Registry as an effective mechanism to direct direct support to vulnerable groups, proposing that poor families be enabled to obtain two gas cylinders free of charge, in exchange for liberalizing the rest of the prices and directing the remaining resources directly to support the needy groups.
