HIBAPRESS – Shafiq Anouri
Sources in Tindouf revealed that the "Polisario" Front, supported by units of the Algerian army, has completely surrounded the camps in anticipation of the expected decision by the UN Security Council regarding the Moroccan Sahara dispute.
The "Sahel Intelligence" website, quoting identical sources, said that "Polisario", supported by the Algerian gendarmerie and army, under instructions from General Said Chanegriha, and without authorization from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has surrounded the Tindouf camps to prevent any protests or attempts to flee by the detainees. The same source explained that the Tindouf camps are experiencing a "deterioration of the situation", highlighting that eyewitnesses reported that "Polisario" militias and the Algerian national gendarmerie have set up barriers and intensified armed patrols around the Rabouni, Smara, and Ausserd camps, in operations aimed at preventing any forms of protest or escape. According to the same website, a number of Tindouf camp residents are talking about a growing climate of fear, amid arbitrary arrests and the intense presence of armed units that are conducting identity checks, adding that the decision to surround the camps was taken after the emergence of spontaneous demonstrations demanding more transparency. The source recalled that humanitarian organizations have been warning for several months about the strict control exercised by "Polisario" over the population and the restrictions imposed on freedom of movement, adding that the increasing frustration among young people, as a result of poverty, isolation and lack of prospects, fuels a silent internal rebellion similar to what Algeria is generally experiencing.
