Algerian media launched an unprecedented offensive campaign against US President Donald Trump, following statements by his advisor, Massad Boulos, who confirmed that the United States is optimistic about the possibility of reaching a final solution to the Sahara conflict within the framework of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty.
The criticisms leveled at Trump took on a personal and hostile tone, as some Algerian newspapers described him as a "Nazi," a "liar," and "irresponsible," accusing him of complete bias towards Morocco and ignoring the "principle of self-determination." The newspapers of Al-Shorouk and Al-Akhbaria Algerian led this campaign, publishing articles that accused Trump of "betraying international justice" and "imposing an unjust solution on the Sahrawi people," while the newspaper Al-Jazair Al-Youm considered that Washington "deals with the United Nations as if it were a US State Department." Observers believe that this escalating language reflects the confusion of the Algerian media discourse in the face of continued US support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, which the US administration described since 2020 as "serious, realistic, and credible." They emphasize that this campaign is merely an attempt to cover up the inability of the Polisario Front to achieve any political or diplomatic breakthrough in the file since the United States recognized Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara. International support falls within the recognition of the historical and constitutional legitimacy of Morocco, where the Sahara is considered an integral part of the national territory since independence, as confirmed by the United Nations resolutions related to the issue. Morocco enjoys broad support from the international community, which considered the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco as a realistic and peaceful solution to the conflict, a serious and reliable framework for ending the conflict within Moroccan sovereignty. This international support reflects a recognition of the legitimacy of Morocco's position and strengthens its diplomatic efforts in finding a sustainable solution that ensures security and stability in the region. In contrast, the facts reveal that the Algerian media campaigns against Trump, instigated and funded by Algerian President Tebboune, which are not based on any reliable evidence, but rather aim to mislead public opinion and spread lies about Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. Also, Algeria's claims reflect failed attempts to create an artificial crisis that has no basis on the ground.
