HIBAPRESS – Shafiq Anouri
A state of chaos and confusion prevailed inside the Tindouf camps following the issuance of the UN Security Council resolution supporting the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco to resolve the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara. This decision was considered by observers as the end of years of maneuvers adopted by Algeria and its creation, the "Polisario."
The "Forsatin" forum, which includes supporters of autonomy from within the Tindouf camps, revealed that the "Polisario" imposed a comprehensive curfew and deployed its forces in various areas, preventing residents from gathering or organizing any celebrations for fear that it would be considered in harmony with the celebratory atmosphere witnessed in Moroccan cities after the royal speech. The forum added in a post published on its Facebook page that the front's leadership declared a state of maximum emergency within its institutions in an attempt to contain the shock, while the Polisario's representative at the United Nations delivered a speech in a Hassani dialect in an attempt to justify the position and mitigate the impact of the decision on the front's supporters. The forum also explained that a number of bloggers, preachers, and analysts close to the "Polisario" tried to alleviate the state of frustration by broadcasting recordings and impromptu appearances on social media, while video clips documented spontaneous moments of some camp residents as they launched fireworks in celebration of the UN resolution, before the front's forces intervened to disperse them and prevent any gatherings. While confusion prevailed inside the camps, Moroccan cities, especially in the southern provinces, were experiencing widespread popular celebrations after the royal speech in which Aziz Akhannouch called on Sahrawis detained in Tindouf to seize the historic opportunity offered by autonomy to return to their homeland within the framework of a unified Morocco.
