HIBAPRESS – Dakhla
On Monday, November 3rd, the security services at the port of Dakhla carried out a quality operation that resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of undeclared fish, weighing about 1,257 kilograms of various marine species.
This operation came after the actions of a truck driver assigned to transport goods raised the suspicions of security elements during routine monitoring at the entrance to the new port. After inspecting the vehicle, it turned out that it was loaded with quantities of fish that did not have the legal documents proving its source or destination.
The driver, 51 years old, was arrested, and investigations revealed that he had a criminal record in similar cases. He was placed under the supervision of the judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office, pending the identification of other potential accomplices.
The seized quantity was also handed over to the services of the fisheries sector in order to take the necessary legal measures, especially those related to the safety of marine products and respect for distribution procedures.
This operation falls within the ongoing efforts made by the security services in Dakhla to combat illegal fishing and all forms of illegal trade in marine wealth, in order to preserve natural resources and ensure their sustainability, as it is a fundamental pillar of the local economy in the region.
