HIBAPRESS – Barcelona: Omar Razzini
In a comical incident in the city of Rubi, near Barcelona, a Moroccan citizen caused controversy after deciding to raise a sheep inside his apartment instead of a dog, which prompted the neighbors to contact the local police, who rushed to intervene.
According to local media sources, the man, who has been living in Spain for years, told investigators that he does not want to raise dogs for religious and cultural reasons, so he chose a sheep to comfort his loneliness. However, the neighbors did not like the matter, who complained about the sounds and smells emanating from the apartment. The Spanish police attended the scene and issued a report on the incident, and informed the Moroccan citizen of the need to move the animal to a suitable environment, considering that local laws prohibit the raising of livestock inside urban dwellings. The incident, which spread on social media, sparked a wave of sarcastic and sympathetic comments at the same time. While some considered the man's behavior "unusual", others saw it as an expression of immigrants' adherence to their customs and cultural identity, even in the details of their daily lives. Although the case ended without imposing major penalties, it once again shed light on the cultural differences between immigrants and Spanish society, and how a simple act can turn into an event that raises discussion about coexistence and respect for customs in a diverse society like Catalonia.
