HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Abdelatif Wahbi, the Minister of Justice, said during his discussion about the Family Code project that he faces accusations of making "significant concessions for the benefit of women," emphasizing that these accusations do not bother him but rather consider them an honor.
Minister Wahbi said in his speech before the Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives: "I am accused of making significant concessions for the benefit of women and seeking an ideal equality that does not exist in reality, and these accusations I accept and am honored by." Wahbi added that the discussion about the Family Code expresses the vitality of Moroccan society and its different orientations, pointing out that the anticipated reform aims to achieve a balance between the requirements of justice and equality on the one hand, and respect for the particularities of Moroccan society on the other hand. He affirmed that the ministry is dealing with this major workshop with a reformist and modern spirit, placing the dignity of women and the family as a whole at the heart of its priorities.
