HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Rachid Hamouni, the head of the parliamentary group of the Party of Progress and Socialism, accused some private clinics in Morocco of performing medically unnecessary surgeries for financial gain.
Hamouni said during his speech, on Tuesday, during the discussion of the sub-budget project for the Ministry of Health, that there are "some clinics that exploit associations in order to perform heart surgeries on citizens who are not actually ill." He added: "Those clinics place advertisements for those who want to undergo free surgeries, provided they have health coverage, and when looking at the list of beneficiaries, you only find the numbers of the associations." He continued: "Here I do not mean all clinics, but only some who do not work much, and these drain the funds of insurance funds." The parliamentarian called for stricter monitoring and accountability within the private health sector, stressing that citizens "are not customers, but souls in need of care and responsibility."
