The Moroccan Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hakim Hajoui, affirmed that Resolution 2797, recently adopted by the United Nations Security Council regarding the Moroccan Sahara, represents "a diplomatic progress that embodies the long-term vision of King Mohammed VI."

Hajoui wrote in an article published in "The Daily Telegraph," one of the prominent newspapers in the United Kingdom, that "this diplomatic progress reflects the long-term vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI."

He pointed out that this historic resolution comes a few days before the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Green March, the epic event that witnessed the participation of 350,000 unarmed Moroccan citizens who marched peacefully towards the southern provinces of the Kingdom, confirming the unity of Morocco.

He added that "this march, peaceful and resolute at the same time, still constitutes a fundamental component of modern Moroccan identity," highlighting that "the Green March remains, after half a century, a living expression of the unity of the Moroccan people, and a symbol that continues to instill a spirit of confidence and cohesion across generations."

The ambassador noted that, thanks to the enlightened vision of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has embarked on a path of comprehensive transformation in its southern provinces, where these provinces have become a model for sustainable growth.

He said in this regard: "These regions were previously isolated and underdeveloped, but today they embrace major infrastructure projects and promising initiatives in the field of renewable energy," citing the Dakhla Atlantic port, "the pioneering project that will soon connect emerging African markets with their counterparts in Europe and the Americas, making Morocco a bridge between continents."

Hajoui explained that this transformation is not limited to the economic aspect, but also includes strengthening democratic participation in the southern provinces, recalling that the participation rate in the 2021 elections exceeded 66 percent, which is among the highest rates at the national level, which constitutes "the most eloquent evidence of confidence, through citizens who choose their future within the Moroccan democratic framework."

He highlighted that Morocco presents, in a world dominated by turmoil, "a rare model of stability and good governance, based on conviction and a shared vision of progress."

Regarding the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Kingdom, the ambassador affirmed that these relations, which extend for more than eight centuries, witnessed a decisive turning point this year, through the support expressed by the British government on June 1st of last year for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco, considering it "the most credible, applicable, and pragmatic basis for a permanent settlement of the conflict."

He stressed that the decision of the British government "goes beyond mere diplomatic consensus, as it reflects a shared conviction that progress is born from the intersection of principles and pragmatism," adding that the United Kingdom's support for the autonomy plan also confirms a fundamental principle in its foreign policy, which is that "partnership with stable countries engaged in the path of reform is an essential factor in promoting peace and prosperity in a world dominated by uncertainty."

In this context, Hajoui pointed out that Security Council Resolution 2797, which was supported by the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and a number of international partners, enshrines "a broad consensus that self-government under Moroccan sovereignty constitutes the most realistic path towards lasting peace."

The Moroccan ambassador concluded his article by emphasizing that the shared vision that Morocco and the United Kingdom renewed last June is based on strong cooperation in strategic sectors and sustainable development for both kingdoms, saying: "Today, after centuries of friendship, our two countries are renewing more than ever their common commitment to sustainable growth and enhanced security in a turbulent world."
