The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, and a number of elected officials presided over the "Nostalgia of Laayoune" performances last Thursday evening, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the victorious Green March.
The "Nostalgia of Laayoune" performances carried the title "The Green March, A New Era," embodying an exceptional moment of return to a single memory that unites all Moroccans around a national event that shaped a decisive turning point in the history of our country. Through modern display techniques, visual effects, and artistic scenes, the spirit of the Green March is evoked, highlighting the values of solidarity, patriotism, and popular consensus that united Moroccans behind the late King Hassan II. These ongoing performances, which continue until the tenth of November in the Umm Saad square in the city of Laayoune, fall within the framework of major cultural projects launched by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, as a national artistic work that celebrates the collective memory and intangible heritage of the southern regions of Morocco. Through a contemporary stage approach, this project celebrates the epic of the Green March and traces the deep historical and spiritual connections that unite the Sahrawi tribes with the Alawi throne, thus embodying the meanings of loyalty, unity, and continuity that characterize the history of the Kingdom of Morocco. "Nostalgia of Laayoune" invites to a work that blends acting, music, dance, and lights, the audience to a sensory and emotional journey in the heart of the Sahrawi memory, affirming the role of art as a bridge that connects the past and the present, heritage and renewal.
