The statement indicated that the deceased was an enthusiastic defender of the Palestinian cause, and a fighter against what he described as genocide and war crimes committed by the Israeli army. The statement added that his health deteriorated this week after a coma that lasted about three months due to a fatal lung infection, despite encouraging signs of improvement that appeared in recent weeks.
